NYC VETERANS DAY – HONOR RUCK
This year’s annual GORUCK/United War Veterans Council (UWVC) “Honor Ruck” will allow the opportunity for ruckers to honor veterans and to represent the Tribe by marching in the NYC Veterans Day Parade!
The ruck route will pass by the following landmarks; Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Coast Guard Memorial, WWII Memorial, Korean War Memorial, the Canyon of Heroes, America’s Response Statue, 9/11 Memorial Museum, Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge & Flat Iron Building.
At the ruck endex, tribe members will be directed to either help carry a garrison sized (30x50ft) American Flag or march alongside the flag amongst the UWVC Health and Wellness Program contingent. This program is 6 years old and is focussed on healing at-risk veterans through holistic, therapeutic and social fitness outings. The program was founded with the help of GORUCK and rucking remains an important part of the curriculum as a form of social fitness.
The UWVC are the producers of the NYC Veterans Day Parade which is the largest parade that honors veterans service in the country and typically has between 20,000 to 25,000 marchers representing 250 organizations and veterans of every generation dating back to WWII. The parade is aired by WABC-TV and is televised locally on channel 7. The parade route goes up 5th Ave from 24th Street to 48th Street and was established in 1919.

- DISTANCE: 8 miles for the ruck and an additional 1.2 miles for the parade. (9.2 miles total)
- RUCK WEIGHT: At discretion
- MUST CARRY: food and water to sustain yourself
- PACE: 20 minute miles
- IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a time priority ruck so by joining you guarantee that you are able to maintain at least a 20 minute pace. If not, you’ll need to arrange your own departure. PARADE: Upon arrival at 24th & 5th Ave, the transition will be quick into the parade line of march. The contingent will be in the first 1/3 of the parade. The parade starts at 12:30pm and runs until 3pm.

Each year the NYC Veterans Day Parade has a featured service branch. This year’s patch pays tribute to the Coast Guard and was designed by Carlos Orduz.
